Ridge Thatch - Wrap over type.

When a roof is thatched the material eventually reaches the top we hope ! the problem then is to seal the joint of the top two tile like courses. This is achieved by fitting a roll or "dolly" to the cut over sail of material to form a base for the bending over in a Ù shape of the top gabble (many regional variations apply) thus sealing the joint. All the materials are used with the exception of Water Reed as it is too stiff or brittle. It is a popular misconception that this pattern is the Thatchers trade mark, the pattern should I feel reflect the style of the house or area. Many ridges are replaced now after 10 - 15 years most will last a great deal longer doing the job it was intended for - keeping water out. Modern owners prefer to replace to keep it looking tidy.
